Senior WordPress Developer

We're looking for a Senior WordPress Developer to help our client build scalable, high-performance WordPress solutions and deliver complex digital experiences.

EU, Remote, Ukraine

Are you a hands-on WordPress expert who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and building scalable web solutions? This role combines advanced WordPress development, solution design, technical ownership, and collaboration with developers and clients. Beetroot is a trusted technology partner helping companies worldwide build and scale their software teams. You'll join a dedicated team working closely with our client's developers and stakeholders, contributing to complex WordPress projects from discovery and solution design through development and delivery. Our client delivers complex digital experiences built around WordPress, helping organizations create scalable, performant, and accessible websites and digital platforms. As a Senior WordPress Developer, you'll play an important role in shaping and delivering these solutions. You'll work across both front-end and back-end development, taking ownership of complex features, integrations, technical challenges, and architectural decisions. It's an opportunity to have a direct impact on the quality, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability of WordPress projects.

What You'll Do In This Role

• Develop and contribute to complex WordPress solutions across front-end and back-end technologies.
• Define and implement project architecture, content models, block strategies, integrations, and deployment approaches.
• Remain hands-on with development, particularly for complex features, prototypes, and technical challenges.
• Build and review custom WordPress themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, and reusable components.
• Work closely with front-end developers to deliver responsive, accessible, and performant interfaces.
• Build and maintain third-party integrations, including APIs, CRMs, payment systems, SSO, and other external services.
• Evaluate when to use WordPress core functionality, third-party plugins, custom development, or external platforms.
• Participate in discovery, technical estimation, solution design, and client-facing technical discussions.
• Review code and provide technical guidance across front-end and back-end development.
• Contribute to reusable WordPress standards, patterns, and best practices across projects.
• Troubleshoot complex production, performance, and architectural issues.
• Support and mentor other developers and act as a senior technical escalation point.

We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional web development experience, with significant hands-on WordPress experience.
• Experience developing complex or enterprise-level WordPress solutions.
• Strong PHP and WordPress development skills.
• Deep understanding of WordPress core, hooks, APIs, themes, plugins, custom post types, and Gutenberg.
• Strong front-end skills with semantic HTML, modern CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience building responsive and accessible web interfaces.
• Good understanding of web performance optimization and Core Web Vitals.
• Experience working with REST APIs, third-party integrations, and authentication.
• Hands-on experience with WooCommerce.
• Experience with Git, Composer, CI/CD, and modern development workflows.
• Experience with hosting platforms such as WordPress VIP, WP Engine, Pantheon, or AWS.
• Ability to estimate technical work and balance technical quality with project scope and budget.
• Strong communication skills and confidence in customer-facing technical discussions.
• A hands-on mindset with the ability to take ownership of complex technical tasks.

• Experience with React and/or Next.js
• Experience building headless or composable WordPress solutions
• Experience with WPGraphQL or API-driven WordPress
• WordPress Multisite experience
• Experience with design systems or component libraries
• Agency or consulting background
• Experience mentoring or technically leading developers
• Contributions to the WordPress open-source ecosystem
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools
• Naming five or more dishes that include beetroot besides borshch.
